To make your life easier remember that there are really only 3 games categories 1.Net/Wall/Racket, 2. Invasion, 3. Striking and Fielding. Although I have detailed the game and skills of mini-volleyball below, the skills you teach your pupils are transferable over to any of the Net/Wall or Racket games such as badminton, tennis, squash, racket ball etc.
Volleyball Teacher Training
I have attached the notes for the volleyball twighlight training I delivered on Thu 17th January at Brisbane Primary School . These should act as a wee reminder to some of the content we covered on the night, or for those of you out there who just need some help getting started.

What teachers think of the Volleyball Teacher Training?
I use a 'post it note' evaluation process. Its anonymous, quick and easy and allows people to say exactly what they think without being directed. Every course is evaluated. At the end of each session I hand out post it notes and pens and ask the teachers to give me some feedback. Some of them even adopt the 2 stars and a wish system that we use in schools. Here is what the teachers have said so far........

Mini Volleyball Rules
I have included the link below to the FIVB website but a quick adapted summary is:
- The game is played with 3 or 4 players on each side
- Start the game with an underarm serve/lob or throw
- Pupils are allowed to catch the ball above the head to slow the game down and allow team mates to get into position.
- The ball can be touched 3 times on each side after the initial service until a point is scored. (You can condition your game for 2 or 3 touches each side to encourage control and inclusion)
- A point is scored if the ball is 'grounded' on the opponents court. SERVICE is given to the team who win the point. It is a RALLY POINT score system. A point is also scored if the ball is played 'out' by your opposition.
- The first team to score 11 points is the winner. (you can condition this to the first team to score 3, 5 or 7 if time is short)
The Basic Skills of Volleyball
In Scottish schools we tend to name the skills as the VOLLEY, the DIG, the SERVE, the SPIKE and the BLOCK. However the Americans and most of the you tube video links I have included change the language slightly . They refer to the Dig as the PASS. The Volley is referred to as the SET, the Spike is the HIT. It doesn't really matter what you call it because ultimately the pupils will get the general gist of the game. Remember as an EDUCATIONALIST, your job is to increase your pupil's PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES, COGNITIVE SKILLS, PHYSICAL FITNESS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES, if they learn how to play Volleyball along the way, all is well and good.
